Ireland poised to recognize Palestine
Ireland is expected to announce its recognition of a Palestinian state this Wednesday, based on information from an unnamed source reported by Reuters. The Irish government has yet to officially confirm the move. The announcement is anticipated to coincide with a press conference to be held by Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris and the Foreign Minister. Meanwhile, Norway could be set to recognize Palestine as well, with plans for a related press conference. The Norwegian Foreign Minister suggested recognition could occur this spring as part of a coordinated international approach. Currently, nine EU nations recognize Palestine, including Sweden, Poland, and Hungary. Denmark supported a UN resolution for Palestinian participation at the UN, underpinning the importance of their voice in global cooperation and advocating for a two-state solution, although deeming it a distant goal.
