Danish astronaut Andreas Mogensen honored with portrait
Andreas Mogensen, the first Dane in space, has joined the ranks of famous Danish scientists with a portrait at The Museum of National History at Frederiksborg. Unveiled by Culture Minister Jacob Engel-Schmidt and Mogensen himself, the painting is Denmark’s first astronaut portrait. According to Mette Houlberg Rung, the museum’s collection and exhibition chief, Mogensen’s exceptional achievement justifies his place among luminaries like Niels Bohr and Ole Rømer. Artist Maria Wandel painted the portrait on glass, using both sides to create a multi-layered effect, portraying an abstract universe on one side and Mogensen in zero gravity on the other. The portrait features an ‘infinity box,’ symbolizing the unknown, and has a three-dimensional appearance with LED lights. It will be on display at Frederiksborg until September 16.
