Minister considers reopening defense deal
Danish defense minister Troels Lund Poulsen from The Liberal Party of Denmark is contemplating reopening the defense agreement, which was settled just over half a year ago with a 155 billion kroner allocation for a ten-year period. He expressed this view after attending a meeting with EU defense ministers, given the evolving complexities in global security. The ministers discussed the situation in Ukraine, highlighting difficulties in delivering promised financial support and equipment. Poulsen pointed out a consensus on improving cooperation to support Ukraine against Russia. However, the EU is struggling to fulfill its promised aid, with EU foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell admitting only 52% of the commitment is being met. Revising Denmark’s defense investments might be needed but would require agreement from the parties involved in the original defense pact.
