European jews faced rising antisemitism before hamas attack
European Jews experienced increasing antisemitism before the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel, according to a new report by the Fundamental Rights Agency (FRA), as reported by Politiken. The study, based on data from the first half of 2023, involved nearly 8,000 Jewish participants over 15 years old from 13 countries, including Denmark. Around 96% encountered antisemitism in daily life in the past year, with 80% observing a rise in their countries over the last five years. Furthermore, 37% faced harassment, and 76% hid their Jewish identity to some extent. Institute for Human Rights’ Rasmus Brygger described these figures as ‘alarming and very concerning.’ In Denmark, 93% of 631 Jewish respondents noted daily antisemitism, 65% saw an uptick over five years, and 24% experienced harassment in the past year, with 83% concealing their identity.
