Danes to live nearly 5 months longer

Danish people can anticipate a life expectancy increase of 4.6 months, based on calculations by the Labor Market Supplementary Pension (ATP). The annual update uses current data from Denmark and 17 other comparable countries. Since both 2021 and 2022 saw a decline in life expectancy due to the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, this growth in 2023 stands out as quite significant. Camilla Fredsgaard Larsen from ATP notes that it’s been a long time since such an increase has been seen for women and predicts further rises in life expectancy in the coming years. Denmark still ranks low in expected lifespan within Europe when compared to similar countries, trailing behind Sweden and Norway. ATP forecasts that 30-year-olds in 2024 will reach 89 and 92 years for men and women, respectively, while 60-year-olds are expected to live up to 86 and 89 years.
