Six presumed dead in Baltimore bridge collapse

Authorities in Baltimore, Maryland, have presumed the death of six missing persons following the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge, after a container ship collided with the structure late Monday evening. Prior to the collision, the ship issued a mayday distress call, and although traffic was halted, workers remained on the site filling potholes. Two workers were rescued, but with the water temperature and the time elapsed, chances of finding the six missing workers alive are slim. The ship, chartered by Danish company Maersk and en route to Colombo from Baltimore, was reportedly traveling too fast to avoid the accident. Maryland’s Governor, Wes Moore, pledged to rebuild the bridge as a memorial to the victims, and President Joe Biden promised federal support for the project, expressing intentions for the federal government to fund the reconstruction in full.
