Wammen: Over half of cut gov jobs to be in Copenhagen

Danish Finance Minister Nicolai Wammen has announced that over half of the 1000 full-time job equivalencies (FTEs) to be cut from the state will be from Copenhagen. Major Danish cities will also contribute significantly to this reduction. This decision is part of the government’s 2025 fiscal plan to reduce jobs across various ministries. Originally, there was no clear geographical distribution for these cuts, drawing criticism for perceived leniency towards ministries closest to the parliamentary power. Statistics show that in 2022, 39.5% of state jobs were in Copenhagen and its surroundings. The distribution of these job cuts is currently a subject of the ongoing financial law negotiations for the next year, with consideration of task redundancies in various locations across the country.
