Lolland concerned about low school pass rates

Lolland Municipality is addressing concerning data showing that 34% of its students do not achieve the minimum grade in Danish or math by the end of 9th grade. This is the highest percentage across all Danish municipalities. Contributing factors include a high socio-economic index and ongoing poor quality of the local school system, as identified by Styrelsen for Undervisning og Kvalitet (Stuk). Stuk mandated Lolland to implement a five-year action plan, which is partially approved with revisions pending for specific schools by July 1. Nationwide, the analysis reveals large geographical disparities in educational outcomes; areas north of Copenhagen only had 2-5% of students failing. Educational researcher Rasmus Landersø notes that this disparity can perpetuate through generations, and addressing it is complex, as families tend to relocate based on school performance.
