Dan Jørgensen aims for EU to cut Russian gas ties
Dan Jørgensen, EU Commissioner for Housing and Energy, outlined a plan to make Europe independent of Russian gas, reduce energy prices, and eliminate greenhouse gas emissions in industry to enhance EU competitiveness. He highlighted that two-thirds of European industries pay more for energy than counterparts in the USA and China. The plan includes expedited six-month permits for green energy projects. However, Jørgensen admits gas will remain part of the energy mix for now. Kira Marie Peter-Hansen of The Greens in the EU Parliament supports the move but warns against increasing reliance on fossil fuels and overlooking long-term climate goals. She advocates for significant investment in renewable energy to ensure a sustainable, economically independent Europe.
