Report on farming carbon tax postponed

The release of a significant report advising on the implementation of a CO2 tax on agriculture has been postponed until February 21. Initially expected in week 6, the document’s presentation has been delayed to accommodate heavy interest after the winter holiday. According to Michael Svarer, head of the expert group and economics professor at Aarhus University, the postponement will allow for a better response to demand from stakeholders. Previous delays were due to the need for more accurate data on peatland reclamation and pyrolysis development. The report’s recommendations are anticipated to heavily influence political discussions and the foundation for a green tax reform negotiation, including government, agriculture, and environmental organizations. Concerns from the agricultural sector focus on potential job losses if production moves abroad, while green groups and political parties advocate for the tax as a means to drive greenhouse gas emission reductions in farming.
