Danfoss goods reach Russia despite sanctions
Over 13 million DKK of Danfoss products have reached Russia over the past five months, despite EU sanctions. According to Radio IIII, the items are part of a list that EU claims are used in Russian military systems. They were shipped from companies based in China, Turkey, and Kazakhstan. Danfoss denies direct dealings with the involved foreign companies and aims to prevent its products from reaching Russia. Contracts prohibit customers from reselling Danfoss equipment to Russia. The exports concern products that could enhance Russia’s military and technological capabilities. There is a concern about opportunistic intermediaries in countries like Turkey and China ignoring sanctions. DI’s Peter Bay Kirkegaard suggests that EU may need to sanction these intermediaries to prevent such sales. Danish businesses reportedly struggle with unintended resales to Russia. Products from another Danish company, Grundfos, were also reported to have made their way to Russia multiple times.
