Danish dogs to detect explosives at Paris Olympics
Four bomb-sniffing dogs from Denmark, along with their handlers, will assist the French police during the Olympic Games in Paris, as stated in a press release from the Danish Defence. The specially trained canines are tasked with detecting potential explosives in locations including the Olympic village, press centers, and delegation hotels. The Defence’s dog service is providing the animals and their handlers. The host country requested the aid of the Danish dog service to maximize security. The dogs, breeds of German Shepherd and Malinois, are equipped with a sense of smell up to 100,000 times better than humans and can detect explosives even in minute quantities. Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen expressed pride that Danish dogs and handlers will enhance security at the world’s largest sports event. The Olympic Games will take place from July 26 to August 11, with athletes sailing through Paris on the Seine River in a novelty at the opening.
