ATP launches independent investment review

ATP, a state pension fund to which all employees contribute, has announced an independent evaluation of its investments following changes implemented in its business model as per legislation passed by the Danish Parliament in 2021. The CEO, Martin Præstegaard, refers to the initiative as a ‘service check’ aligned with good governance. ATP has faced criticism for its investment strategies, like the considerable loss from an investment in the Swedish battery manufacturer Northvolt and a significant negative return of 64.5 billion Danish kroner in 2022. Præstegaard asserts that the expert group, led by former Director of the Danish Financial Supervisory Authority Jesper Berg, will not evaluate ATP’s model but rather the decisions made by ATP that can be changed. The evaluation, involving two to three mainly international experts, is expected to be completed by mid-2026.
