Mother of three avoids deportation in terror case

A 42-year-old woman, Mardiyya Kahina Birdouz, mother of three, has been spared deportation from Denmark following the Eastern High Court’s confirmation of her sentence for promoting terrorism, as decided by the Copenhagen City Court in 2022. Birdouz, who also received a four-year prison sentence, is convicted of transferring over 20,000 Danish kroner to individuals linked to IS. Despite her alleged Algerian citizenship, she claims to have no knowledge of it. The Eastern High Court’s decision on Tuesday reaffirms that Birdouz financed terror and supported persons connected to Islamic State. Meanwhile, two men, Mustafa Awad and Mohammad Ikram Karim, were both sentenced to 12 years and six months in prison, with Karim also being deported after having his Danish citizenship revoked. They had planned to manufacture TATP explosives for a 2019 terror attack in Denmark, but their intended target was not identified.
