Legal analysis of Randers landslide

A lawyer’s examination of Randers Municipality’s involvement in the Nordic Waste landslide is set for a May deadline, as per an agreement involving Environment Minister Magnus Heunicke and various Danish parties. Heunicke stated the tragedy might have been prevented and needs thorough investigation to avoid a repetition. While the specific lawyer to conduct the investigation hasn’t been chosen, the focus remains on potential errors or negligence in the municipality’s environmental procedures. Previous findings from a municipally commissioned report exonerated the council, but further independent scrutiny was deemed necessary. The landslide’s impact began near Alling Å and the cleanup costs are projected to be about 300 million kroner for Randers. A comprehensive review of environmental damage laws is also planned, to be potentially completed by the end of 2025.
