Ex-Red Cross chief suspected of corruption

Robert Kwesiga, a former emergency aid chief for the Danish Red Cross, is under suspicion for corruption, leading to the seizure of two properties in Zimbabwe, reports DR. These investigations by Zimbabwean authorities are looking into allegations that the funds used for purchasing the houses in 2012 could be derived from corruption and criminal activities. Kwesiga, who served as regional chief for the Red Cross in Southern Africa from 2007 to 2013 and currently heads the Uganda Red Cross, denies any criminal wrongdoing, claiming the purchases were legal. According to DR The High Court in Zimbabwe has given him 30 days as of May 15 to explain the source of the funds. Danish Red Cross replied to DR denying any loss of funds or suspicion during Kwesiga’s employment and affirmed being contacted by Zimbabwean authorities in 2021.
