Lawyer probe absolves Randers Municipality

A legal probe clears Randers Municipality of responsibility for a landslide at Ølst near Randers, placing the blame on Nordic Waste for not meeting the environmental approval conditions. The investigation, presented at a press conference, reveals that Nordic Waste did not comply with the specified slope gradient, which could have prevented the landslide. Randers Municipality conducted 17 inspections over three years without enforcing compliance, even though signs of an impending landslide were observed. Municipal Director Jesper Kaas acknowledges the supervision lapses and vows better future practices. Randers Municipality plans to report Nordic Waste, now bankrupt, for environmental violations. Additionally, the government is reviewing whether Nordic Waste’s leadership could be held accountable. Centre-right party Venstre’s political spokesperson demands scrutiny into the municipality’s role in this matter as well.
