Citizens can surrender weapons in November without penalty

Throughout November, citizens in Denmark will be able to anonymously surrender weapons without facing charges due to an initiative by Justice Minister Peter Hummelgaard. This action is part of the latest gang package aimed at reducing illegal weapons circulation and preventing them from reaching criminal gangs. It applies to firearms, knives, hand grenades, illegal ammunition, and explosives. The amnesty period lasts from November 1 to 30, 2024. With the recent gang package, penalties for knife possession have increased. Minister Hummelgaard encourages those with illegal weapons to use this opportunity to surrender them and emphasizes the move as crucial for restricting criminal access to weapons. Previous amnesties in 2009, 2013, and 2017 resulted in thousands of firearms and other illegal items like grenades and blades being turned in.
