Minister seeks enhanced compensation for veterans

Troels Lund Poulsen, Danish Minister of Defense, intends to change the law to make it easier for veterans to have their PTSD recognized as a work-related injury. Under the current system, veterans must prove that their PTSD is a result of their deployment, but the new proposal would shift this burden of proof to the authorities. This change could positively impact the majority of the 500 veterans currently unable to receive compensation. Legal expert Anders Bloch Ehlers emphasizes the importance of an independent specialized doctor to assess if a veteran’s PTSD is likely linked to their service. The estimated cost of implementing these new rules could exceed one billion kroner. Poulsen expects a bill to be proposed within the next few years.
