Complaints over child support case delays

Parents are complaining about the long waiting times for decisions regarding child support, prompting the Ombudsman to investigate. The Ombudsman’s press release is based on multiple grievances about the handling time at the Family Law House (Familieretshuset). Some parents have been waiting up to a year. Many complaints mention financial hardship while awaiting resolution from the Family Law House, which is now being asked to explain the increase in case numbers and processing times, as well as measures being taken to reduce wait times. Child support is mandatory for parents irrespective of living with their child. The Family Law House’s website states average processing times are 14 weeks for standard cases and 20 weeks for complicated ones. The Family Law House, operational since April 1, 2019, handles various family matters and is overseen by the Social and Housing Ministry.
