Minister to crack down on illegal work sites

Denmark’s Employment Minister Ane Halsboe-Jørgensen proposes to strengthen the powers of Work Environment in Denmark to combat illegal labour in the construction sector. She calls for increased penalties and tougher enforcement to ensure compliance with safety regulations. The Rockwool Foundation’s 2018 estimate suggested 26,000 illegal immigrants were in Denmark, a number the minister believes has risen, correlating with an increase in legal workers since then. Trade union 3F welcomes stricter sanctions, while Danish Industry criticizes her statements as a ‘gross generalization’ of the construction industry. Recently, four Brazilians were expelled from Denmark after being caught working illegally.
