Schools demand reform amid welfare education dip

Professional colleges in Denmark urge substantial changes after a decline in enrollments in key welfare-oriented programs such as nursing, elementary teaching, pedagogy, and social counseling. The number of students admitted has dropped by four percent this year, with education and teaching programs experiencing an eight and six percent reduction, respectively. Camilla Wang, spokesperson for the colleges, emphasizes the need for more continuing education opportunities and career paths. The Lærerstuderendes Landskreds described the situation as catastrophic, criticizing government inaction and warning of impacts on children and youth’s future. Some efforts to reverse the trend include engagement with high schools and anticipated salary boosts for professions like nursing. Although there was a one percent increase in nursing and social counseling intake, the overall trend remains downward compared to past years.
