Maria Rørbye Rønn to exit as DR’s CEO by 2025

Maria Rørbye Rønn has announced she will step down as the Director-General of the Danish Broadcasting Corporation (DR) by 2025. She has held the position since 2010 and aims to let a new board find her successor once appointed. Rønn joined DR in 1995 and rose through the ranks, becoming the first woman to lead the broadcaster. During her tenure, she managed significant challenges, including budget cuts and implementing a substantial savings plan due to the 2018 media agreement, though some cuts were later reversed. Adverse events also marked her time at DR, including addressing past inappropriate behavior within DR’s girls’ choir which led to compensations and a heartfelt apology to the affected former members. Rønn’s departure is planned for the summer of 2025, asserting that public service is more crucial than ever and that DR is well-positioned despite ongoing digital evolution.
