Denmark and 8 others to review conventions again
Nine European countries, led by Denmark and Italy, have signed an open letter advocating for easier deportation of more criminal foreigners, according to a press release from the Danish Prime Minister’s Office. The letter criticizes the European Court of Human Rights for protecting the wrong individuals by overinterpreting human rights conventions. Signatories hope that entities like the EU will address this issue, making it easier for countries to deport criminal foreigners currently protected by the court. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen emphasized the need for a new migration approach and mentioned that discussions are ongoing within the EU about establishing asylum centers outside Europe. She has partnered with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, believing they can influence changes in Europe regarding immigration policies.
