Tænk wins case on influencer’s kids’ food ads

The Danish Consumer Council, Forbrugerrådet Tænk, has won a complaint against YouTuber Alexander Husum for advertising a high-fat, high-salt burger chain, The Burger Concept, to children. The Forum for Food Advertising agreed that the campaign violated the food industry’s advertising code by targeting children with unhealthy food. Husum, who has a large follower base including children under 13, encouraged his audience to purchase his own burger and milkshake. Following the ruling, The Burger Concept discontinued the sale of Husum’s products. Previously, the Consumer Council has also succeeded in other cases related to unhealthy food marketing to children. Business Minister Morten Bødskov has indicated an interest in reviewing legislation on influencer advertising aimed at children and youth.
