Female creators get 10% of Koda payouts
Women’s music accounted for just ten percent of the total payments from Koda, with no women on the top 10 earnings lists for areas such as streaming and concerts. This marks two years in a row with women absent from these lists, according to Koda’s gender statistics report. Koda’s chair, Loui Törnqvist, urges the music industry to address gender inequality collectively. Although 20 percent of Koda’s members are women, they earn significantly less, with their best performance in radio revenues at 17 percent. The reasons for this gender gap include sexism, biases, and unregulated work conditions for women. Törnqvist insists on industry-wide change, citing the need to fight entrenched cultural habits and foster a healthier culture for equality.
