Danish police distribute consent guide to US troops
Central and West Zealand Police have distributed a brochure to U.S. soldiers stationed near Roskilde Airport, focusing on Danish consent law. The brochure educates on misunderstanding Danish directness as impoliteness, which may lead to confrontations, especially with alcohol involved. It clarifies the need for verbal consent for sexual activities to prevent accusations of rape, bearing the title ‘Welcome to Roskilde’. Communications Chief Thomas Kristensen mentioned the goal is ensuring a pleasant stay, including local information and legal guidelines. Soldiers also receive information about Roskilde, the Danes’ proficiency in English, and the importance of being mindful of cyclists and bike paths. The troops are part of a large Nato exercise involving transport of U.S. equipment through Denmark, with about 200 U.S. military personnel lodged in Roskilde.
