Viaplay struggles with subscriber loss and operating deficit

Entertainment and streaming company Viaplay is working towards regaining profitability after reporting a first-half-year operating loss of 387 million Swedish kronor, a 177 million improvement from the previous year. Revenue has increased slightly despite a drop in subscriber numbers, helped by price increases. Viaplay has recently taken measures against account sharing by reducing the number of concurrent users per subscription. The company’s CEO, Jørgen Lindemann Madsen, expressed optimism about customers adhering to fair play. Last year, Viapaly faced bankruptcy risk and had to raise new capital while also retreating from markets including the USA, UK, Canada, Poland, and the Baltic countries to focus on the Nordic countries and the Netherlands. Viaplay’s stock rose by 3.5 percent in Stockholm even though it has lost 95 percent of its value over the past twelve months.
