Danish municipalities aim for healthier citizens
To improve public health, Denmark’s 98 municipalities have been presented with 45 recommendations in a new health initiative by the Local Government Denmark (KL), targeting prevention of illness and unease among residents. Suggestions include implementing tobacco and nicotine-free work hours, screen-free time at schools, and regulating children’s food intake at schools and daycare centers. KL stresses the importance of all facets of life, including schooling, work, and leisure, for prevention. A call is made to prohibit alcohol sales to under-18s. The initiative, focusing on strengthening preventive efforts in municipalities, aims to extend Danish lifespans, reduce health inequality, and cut costly hospital treatments. This comes ahead of a significant health reform in the country.
