Company behind nordic waste loses 250 Million DKK

A landslide at Nordic Waste in Ølst near Randers has cost the company 234 million DKK so far, with 51 million DKK spent on containment, 15 million DKK on legal advice, and a loss of 180 million DKK due to asset write-downs, reports Berlingske. SDK Freja, the parent company, reported an annual profit of 508,000 DKK, down from 225 million DKK the previous year. United Shipping & Trading Company (USTC) owns Nordic Oily Waste A/S, where the landslide occurred in December 2023, moving six million tons of soil. Randers Municipality intervened to stop the landslide, which is considered an environmental disaster. Nordic Waste declared bankruptcy on January 22, and its sister company DSH Recycling, also owned by the same holding company, disputes responsibility for the landslide and the resulting environmental damage, leading to a legal challenge against the municipality.
