Carlsberg nears Pepsi with UK acquisition

Danish brewery Carlsberg is poised to acquire British soft drink company Britvic in a deal worth around 29 billion DKK, which will bring it closer to American soft drink giant PepsiCo. The acquisition is set for early next year, as revealed by CEO Jacob Aarup-Andersen. Britvic previously secured a 20-year deal to bottle PepsiCo’s products in Britain and Ireland. Carlsberg already partners with PepsiCo in several countries, and further collaborations may emerge as PepsiCo wants fewer and larger partners. Such expansions could allow Carlsberg to maximize the use of its production facilities and distribution network. Meanwhile, in Denmark, Carlsberg has a licensing agreement with Coca-Cola, and Royal Unibrew distributes PepsiCo drinks in Denmark and other regions.
