Brigitte Bardot advocates for jailed activist
French actress Brigitte Bardot has contacted the Danish Justice Ministry regarding the case of Paul Watson, a Canadian-American environmental activist imprisoned in Greenland since late July after his arrest by Greenland Police with Danish assistance due to a Japanese arrest warrant. Japan seeks his extradition to prosecute him for allegedly assaulting Japanese whalers in Antarctica in 2010 and obstructing their whaling activities. Watson denies the charges. The Danish Justice Ministry is deciding whether he can be extradited, with the option to bring the case to court. The issue has garnered global attention, sparking demonstrations in various cities urging Denmark not to extradite Watson. Following his arrest, President Emmanuel Macron stated he was in talks with Danish officials to prevent the extradition. Numerous countries and citizens have contacted Danish authorities, who have kept the communications confidential.
