New emergency nursing program launching
Denmark is set to offer a new specialized education in emergency nursing from the spring of next year. The program, approved by Health Minister Sophie Løhde, comes in response to the need for nurses with the right qualifications for acute care settings. Targeted primarily at nurses in somatic emergency departments, the education is also available to nurses from other sectors wishing to transition to emergency care. Training will be hands-on at regional emergency departments with theoretical components at regional training centers. Two main reasons for the new program include high demand for specialized acute care nurses and the consolidation of specialized treatment in fewer units over the last 15 years. With the establishment of joint emergency receptions, there’s a push for higher competency standards among nurses. The title ‘specialized nurse in emergency care’ will be protected by law.
