Tax agency monitors Danes with AI
The Danish tax authority is using 23 different artificial intelligence systems to process personal information of citizens, but the exact purposes remain unclear, reports Politiken, citing a freedom of information request. The Data Ethics Council and The Institute for Human Rights have sounded the alarm. Council Chairman Johan Busse points to a loss of public trust due to scandals, stressing the importance of a reliable tax system to the welfare state’s financing. Marya Akhtar of the Institute for Human Rights highlights the risk of human rights violations. Similar systems previously led to false fraud accusations in the Netherlands, bringing down its government. The Ministry of Taxation and minister Jeppe Bruus (S) have not responded to inquiries.
