Leaders react to ‘serious’ post-Trump briefing
Danish political leaders, including SF’s Pia Olsen Dyhr, LA’s Alex Vanopslagh, and K’s Mona Juul, were briefed by Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen about the serious implications following Donald Trump’s reinstatement as the US president. They expressed concerns about Trump’s omission of Ukraine in his inaugural speech and his intention to leave the Paris Agreement. Vanopslagh stressed the need to strengthen the nation’s unity and to ensure Greenland’s contentment within the realm, responding to Trump’s comments on expanding US territory. Juul depicted the situation as severe, emphasizing the change in the US stance. Trump also indicated Greenland’s importance for international security, and his expectation of Denmark’s cooperation. Christian Rabjerg Madsen from the Social Democrats aims to maintain close diplomatic relations with the US, while Aaja Chemnitz sees the non-mention of Greenland as positive, advocating for direct dialogue with Greenland.
