Prime Minister shares abusive social media posts
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has shared an Instagram and Facebook post highlighting the severity of harsh comments she has received online. She points out that a high tolerance is required as a political figure, whose decisions impact many people, but some comments are so violent that they are unacceptable for anyone. Frederiksen notes an increase in threatening messages and urges a public discussion on maintaining civility. Supporting this call, Social Democratic spokesperson Rasmus Stoklund decries a vocal minority spoiling online discourse, fearing it may discourage broader participation, especially in political conversation. Stoklund suggests that social platforms carry a responsibility in this issue, especially since moderation is less rigorous compared to traditional town hall debates. Several Social Democratic colleagues have expressed solidarity with Frederiksen on social media.
