More adults stay at parents’ home

A new analysis from Statistics Denmark reveals an increase in the number of adults aged 30-44 living at home with parents, reaching 34,900 in 2023, or 3.2% of this age group. Particularly, men in their early 30s, low-income individuals, and descendants from non-Western backgrounds are prone to this. The trend is most common in Sjælland areas like Gribskov, Halsnæs, and Odsherred. Copenhagen, despite high apartment prices, has fewer adults living at home, at 2%. Men make up 65% of this demographic, while women represent 35%. Additionally, 63% of those living at home are single adults without children. Non-Western descendants aged 30-40 make up 14.3%, more than double the percentage of Western descendants (6.5%) and those with Danish origin (3.2%). The number of adults living with parents has risen over the past decade; in 2013, only 2.3% of the age group lived at home.
