TV2 admits mistakes in Borup school coverage

TV2’s news director, Ulla Pors, acknowledged errors in the channel’s reporting on misconduct at Borup School. Pors stated that the parents of the accused children should have been consulted before the story was published. She emphasized the parents may have had significant information that could have presented a more nuanced picture. The families were only contacted 16 hours after the initial publication and chose not to engage with TV2. Pors also addressed the use of the word ‘rape’ in the narrative, noting that it should be employed thoughtfully and with the requisite disclaimers, referring to its source, which in this case was the term supposedly used by Børnehuset Sjælland to describe an 8-year-old girl’s experience. Pors regretted cases where the source was not clearly cited. TV2 has decided to review the coverage to ensure clear referencing when using the term ‘rape’ in the story.
