HC Andersen letters to be digitized

The Danish National Archives are digitizing thousands of Denmark’s most vital documents, including the country’s constitutions and letters from Hans Christian Andersen. Selected from 5900 archival boxes, the project will digitize artifacts like 19th-century prisoner photos and 17th-century witch trial records. The initiative promises a more democratic and direct access to Denmark’s collective history, safeguarding fragile documents from wear and making historical sources accessible online. Supported by the Aage and Johanne Louis-Hansen Foundation and the Augustinus Foundation, the digitization will provide user-friendly access to Denmark’s cultural heritage, including essential state management documents and court records. The digitalization will encompass significant periods from Denmark’s history and is expected to run from 2025 to 2028.
