Fired defense chief receives 4M kroner severance

Former Danish Defense Chief Flemming Lentfer received approximately four million kroner in a severance agreement, the Ministry of Defense reported. The payment includes a lump sum of 2.075 million kroner and 1.575 million kroner contributed to his pension. Additional funds cover compensation for untaken vacation days. Lentfer was on paid leave after Minister of Defense Troels Lund Poulsen lost confidence in him due to a broader set of issues, not solely a specific incident involving the frigate “Iver Huitfeldt.” Lentfer threatened to sue for wrongful dismissal, claiming no valid reasons existed. Differences in defense equipment preferences and inadequate communication with politicians were highlighted issues. Michael Hyldgaard has been appointed as the new Chief of Defense as of June 1.
