Denmark urges Israel to comply with UN court ruling

Denmark’s Foreign Minister, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, has demanded that Israel obey the International Court of Justice’s decision to halt its military offensive in Rafah, Gaza. He stressed the importance of respecting international law and expects Israel to comply rather than dispute with the court. Løkke plans to raise the issue at the upcoming EU foreign ministers’ meeting in Brussels. He expressed grave concerns about the humanitarian impact of the offensive, which has displaced over 800,000 people. The ICJ ruled that Israel must cease all military actions in Rafah immediately to prevent the potential ‘physical destruction’ of the Palestinian community. EU’s foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, highlighted the need for EU to choose between supporting the rule of law or backing Israel. The ICJ also demanded the immediate and unconditional release of hostages held by Hamas in Gaza.
