Church Staff Face More Bullying Than Other Jobs
Bullying among Danish National Church employees is higher than the Danish labor market average, a study by the Ministry of Ecclesiastical Affairs shows. 14.4% of 7570 surveyed employees reported bullying in the past year, against a 9% national average. Bishop Peter Birch recognizes the issue of bullying and harassment and calls for better management. Many victims identified their bullies as parish council members. Issues with council members’ qualifications and competency were previously reported. Bishop Birch believes the church’s local anchoring, while a strength, can also negatively impact the work environment and church life.
