DR probe into documentary amid criticism
Danish Broadcasting Corporation (DR) will publish a document later on Thursday detailing the production process of the documentary ‘Greenland’s White Gold,’ which has been criticized for its portrayal of a billion-dollar revenue from a cryolite mine in Greenland. News director Sandy French expressed regret that recent debate has focused on DR’s role and the communication of economic estimates discussed in the documentary. The documentary claimed that Denmark had seen up to 400 billion Danish kroner in revenue from the mine in today’s currency, but the figure is not definitive according to DR. A review of externally produced documentaries will also be initiated by DR for future learning, with the investigation to be concluded in February. Additionally, DR plans to address criticisms in its coverage, including a special episode of ‘Debatten’ dedicated to a critical examination of the documentary.
