Council overrules mayor for new waste probe
A majority in Randers City Council demands a new independent investigation into the handling of the Nordic Waste case, countering the Socialdemocrat mayor. The proposal is supported by several parties and independents, holding 16 out of 31 seats. They seek to assess if the municipal supervision complied with the law and if there was consistent oversight compared to other companies. Mayor Torben Hansen initially reacted positively, but highlighted that the Socialdemocrats were not consulted before the proposal. Randers Municipality was previously cleared by an attorney investigation, but with new information from the Environmental Agency assigning responsibility for preventing environmental damage back to the municipality, the scrutiny of the municipal role is reinvigorated. The Socialdemocratic group plans to discuss the proposal.
