Denmark ready to challenge EU social media laws

Caroline Stage, Denmark’s Digitalization Minister, pledges to challenge EU legislation to protect children on social media platforms like TikTok and Snapchat. Responding to Peder Hvelplund of the Unity List, Stage is open to testing the scope of EU regulations when they are ambiguous, risking potential overruling by EU courts. This comes after Stage’s criticism of TikTok for ignoring reports of harmful content and her subsequent withdrawal from a TikTok-held conference. Hvelplund supports Stage’s willingness to push the boundaries of EU law for the safety of young users online. The push for enhanced content moderation aims to foster a secure environment for youth against hate speech and inappropriate content.
