Minister admits policy shift won’t free much staff
Controversy has arisen as the Danish government ceases the detailed staff-to-child counts in nurseries and kindergartens, a move that opposition parties claim limits transparency on staffing, critical for parents choosing institutions for their children. The government, alongside municipalities, identified 56 regulatory measures for elimination to reduce bureaucracy, yet Children’s Minister Mattias Tesfaye acknowledges the removal of staff count registration won’t significantly affect resources or budgets. The left-wing, including the Green Left, The Red/Green Alliance, and The Alternative parties, sees this change as a setback for promoting authentic minimum staffing norms. Despite opposition skepticism, Tesfaye insists most institutions meet staffing legal requirements and cites a personnel increase of 13% against a 3% rise in daycare enrolment. Tesfaye defends the decision, asserting more adults won’t result from mere measurements.
