Man immediately jailed for drug smuggling

A 25-year-old man, Zimon Hougaard Hansen, was sentenced on Wednesday to seven years in prison for smuggling and planning the resale of 11 kilograms of cocaine upon his return from Turkey. He was arrested at Copenhagen Airport by Denmark’s National Special Crime Unit (NSK) and later admitted in Copenhagen City Court to his involvement in the drug smuggling three times in 2020 using the encrypted EncroChat platform. Previously in 2022, when he was 23, he was internationally wanted with his photo disseminated. He was aware of the international warrant and the fact that others involved in the case had also received lengthy sentences. Despite this knowledge, he voluntarily returned to Denmark recently, following cooperation with Turkish authorities. NSK’s press release emphasized the thorough investigation and international collaboration that led to the conviction.
