Minister Downplays Captive Risk on Red Sea Frigate

Troels Lund Poulsen, Danish Defense Minister, considers the capture of prisoners by the Danish frigate bound for the Red Sea highly unlikely. The mission aims to defend civilian ships from the Houthi movement, differing from active piracy pursuits like the 2021 Esbern Snare incident in the Gulf of Guinea. Questioned about the frigate’s potential captives, Poulsen plays down the concerns, calling them overblown. The frigate is set for deployment for about two months. Although the possibility of detaining individuals is acknowledged, detailed plans will not be disclosed until the Folketing (Danish Parliament) is briefed.
