The comedy-drama ‘Anora’, directed by Sean Baker, has won the Oscar for Best Picture. The film’s team accepted the prestigious award at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. ‘Anora’ garnered a total of five Oscars, including Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Editing. Lead actress Mikey Madison, aged 25, clinched Best Actress for her performance. The plot follows a stripper in New York who marries a Russian heir against his wealthy parents’ wishes. Baker highlighted the need for more independent films in his acceptance speech, citing the $6 million budget and small crew used for filming in New York. ‘Anora’ also secured Best Picture at the Critics Choice Awards and the main prize at the Cannes Film Festival. It competed against films like ‘The Brutalist’ and ‘Dune: Part Two’ for the Oscar. Actor Yura Borisov was nominated for Best Supporting Actor but lost to Kieran Culkin.
