EU, UK reach agreement on defense and fishing

All EU’s 27 countries have voted in favor of an agreement with the UK regarding defense, fisheries, and energy. This agreement will be formalized in a summit between UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and EU leaders. António Costa, representing the EU, noted that this marks a new chapter in relations between the EU and the UK. The negotiations were conducted positively, and no red lines were crossed. Notably, the fisheries agreement will be extended for 12 years, benefiting countries like Denmark and France. In return, the UK will have easier food export processes to the EU. A partnership agreement on defense and security has also been signed, resembling Norway’s agreement with the EU. There will be future work on energy, migration, police cooperation, and mobility agreements.
